Very beautiful and tranquil location, in easy reach of areas of interest such as Whitby (15 minutes drive) and the moors. You should allow time to stay around the cottage and it’s wonderful surroundings-all kept very neat by the owners. If energetic, there is a sports room for pool and table tennis. Don’t miss a walk to the little chapel a few minutes away. There is a good play area for children, but they will need to be supervised as there is deep water surrounding the cottage. This cottage has steep stairs, no problem for most, but a potential hazard for the old or young. This place afforded us a great holiday.

The Old Mill is a beautifully renovated water mill with accommodation on three levels. The beds are very comfortable. It is in a very quiet, remote location with access via extremely narrow, windy lanes with some very steep gradients. The grounds (shared with other cottages) are lovely with a stream flowing through them. There is a children's playground and a games room with pool & table tennis available. There is also bbq equipment, chairs, children's sports sets, buckets & spades etc in the shed outside with a very usefúl additional fridge-freezer. Nearest shops are in Sleights which is about 10 minutes away. The butcher & baker are exceptional (didn't see a candlestick maker!). There is also a small Spar shop in Sleights and a large Sainsburys on the south-eastern outskirts of Whitby about 20 minutes away. Due to the remoteness, internet access is very slow and there was no mobile signal on my network (O2). The owners were very welcoming with flowers and a nice tray of goodies on arrival. There is a lovely circular walk to the Falling Foss waterfall and tearooms which passes through woods on the way up and fields on the way back.
