Come and explore Exmoor from this traditional cottage set in the picturesque village of Dunster with beaches, pretty villages and National Trust properties within easy reach.

Come and explore Exmoor from this traditional cottage set in the picturesque village of Dunster with beaches, pretty villages and National Trust properties within easy reach.

Set in the heart of the beautiful village of Dunster, an idyllic location. This quirky, medieval terraced cottage was built in the winter of 1366 according to the Time Team, and is one of the oldest private houses in the village. It has been sympathetically restored and furnished to retain its truly unique character and charm. The spacious living room is the perfect place to relax and listen to the crackling of the wood burner, whilst the snug is ideal as a place to read and relax, or play games and have fun. It also features an old black wooden door frame which was original to the house, although this was not its original location. Off the entrance hall, complete with a 16th-century wooden screen, are dining and utility rooms and a large country-style kitchen. Accessed from the kitchen or dining room is a pretty courtyard area with seating. Higher up is a deck which offers views of the surrounding countryside. Upstairs there’s a master bedroom with the wow factor - an antique four poster bed, large cruck beams and en-suite shower room which can also be accessed off the landing. There’s also a double with en-suite facilities and a twin. If you’re coming to the area as a large party, this property forms part of a group with The Old Sweet Shop (ref UKC3164), Stone Barn (ref UKC3594) and Pilgrim Corner (ref EWQ) just minutes away in Minehead.

This really is the perfect location as everything is on your doorstep. Dunster is in the Exmoor National Park, and the medieval village is one of the most famous on Exmoor with its picturesque setting and high street. You’ll be spoilt for choice for dining options too with award-winning restaurants, pubs and tea rooms. Head up the hill to visit the National Trust castle and working water mill, or through the village for ancient dovecote buildings and a beautiful church. At the seafront there are chalets on Dunster beach and views over the Bristol Channel to Wales.

Walk from the front door of The Oval straight into Exmoor National Park, perfect for walks with or without dogs, or explore the stunning Exmoor countryside in a unique way by taking a steam trip on the West Somerset Railway. It can be boarded in Dunster or Minehead, the start of the line. Blue Anchor is a short drive away, perfect for a walk along the coastline and with a great café. Drive up the coast to the popular harbour town of Watchet, 15 minutes away. Porlock is 15 minutes in the other direction, with its famous Weir and interesting array of shops, pubs and tearooms. If you want to head further afield, you’re close to North Devon, with Lynton and Lynmouth 20 minutes away on the scenic A39. Exmoor is sprinkled with beautiful villages, stunning scenery and wildlife, attractive towns and charming harbours and is a perfect retreat for families and friends. Beach 1½ miles. Pub 20 yards, delicatessen 200 yards.

This is a lovely little cottage in a pretty, quaint little village. The place has real character, including parts of the frame that go back to the 14th century. It makes for a very cool feeling, while still providing great amenities (e.g. a modern kitchen and a big telly). The fireplace is particularly lovely. Dunster is a beautiful village and a great place to sit back, relax, go for long walks (with a dog for an even better experience!). There are some things that are unfortunate, but can't be avoided with such an old building: low ceilings (watch your head!), upper floor windows that can't open, etc., but overall it's a great experience and a lovely quaint cottage in a lovely, quaint place!
