A romantic retreat, this property is within easy reach of both the Norfolk Coast and Broad’s.

A romantic retreat, this property is within easy reach of both the Norfolk Coast and Broad’s.

Aptly named, The Retreat offers detached, single-storey holiday accommodation, accessed 650 yards down a farm road, which is set adjacent to the owner’s home and lies within 30 acres of natural countryside on the edge of a SSSI (a conservation designation denoting a protected area). Rated ‘5 star’ by VisitEngland, the property features a private garden offering views across open countryside, this really is the perfect base for discerning guests wishing to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life, and has wonderful walks that start literally at the front door. Centrally located, there is a great deal to discover in all directions, and guests will be spoilt for choice when it comes to planning their day’s activities. Dillington is a small hamlet 2 miles away from the bustling market town of Dereham, which has a 9-hole golf course, cinema, bowling alley, leisure centre, restaurants and a market on Tuesdays and Fridays. The pretty, Georgian market town of Holt lies 4 miles inland from Blakeney, which is brimming with fabulous eating places, galleries, antiques and shops. It also has the famous ‘Poppy Line’, a heritage railway that runs from Holt to the coastal town of Sheringham. With beaches to the north west, the north and the east, there is a variety of seaside experiences to be had. There is picturesque Blakeney with its quay and nature reserve, Titchwell Marsh RSPB reserve, Brancaster Staithe, Burnham Deepdale, Morston seal trips, Wells-next-the-Sea with its narrow gauge railway, beautiful quay and quaint mix of artisan and traditional seaside shops and cafés, and Cromer with its famous promenade pier and sandy beach. For all the fun of the fair, choose Great Yarmouth or Hunstanton, both of which offer amusements and sandy beaches. Making time to visit the Broad’s is a must, and its worth hiring a day boat or joining a trip out to see the wildlife and scenic views. Not to be missed is a visit to historical Norwich, with its Norman castle, museums, cobbled streets of Elm Hill, cathedral, theatres, shops and restaurants. Closer to home, lies Pensthorpe Nature Reserve and Gressenhall Rural Life Museum. Foodies will not be disappointed either, with lots of great places to eat out, many of which offer seasonal local produce. Shop and pub 2 miles.

Well located for the North Norfolk Coast the Retreat provided us with everything we needed to enjoy a relaxing break. Both the accommodation and hosts were first class and we will be visiting again soon.

A lovely cottage set in beautiful surroundings. We were made to feel very welcome and the cottage certainly lives up to its name. We will definitely be returning.

Overall, a reasonably well appointed property. Unfortunately, the style of bed mattress (memory foam) did not suit us but I do appreciate that you can't please everyone. A couple of throws in the living room would have been a nice touch as it was a little chilly at this time of year and you don't always want to be bothered lighting the wood burner every night although the wood was plentiful and freely provided. Also, a shaver plug/electric tooth brush adapter would have been useful. Nice location but the the farm track had clearly suffered over the winter and traversing the pot holes on a daily basis caused some stress. Wonderful welcome pack on arrival. Excellent location and close to all of our favourite North Norfolk places.

Brilliant little cottage. Lovely owners. Beautiful scenery and excellently located if you want to be in the middle of nowhere! Bit of a shame as a few days before we arrived they tried to install a new wood burner but they couldn 't get it connected up in time but it didn't spoil the holiday. Thank you to the owners for the walk recommendation - Wells-next-the-sea is stunning. Thank you for making our stay an amazing experience! :)
