This unique, octagonal property is set in a peaceful setting, yet close to many outdoor activities.

This delightful and unique octagonal property, formerly an 18th-century smallholder’s cottage, nestles in an idyllic and peaceful setting. The property, close to the owner’s home, is situated by a babbling stream and a wonderful waterfall in a wooded combe in the heart of the Quantock Hills. It is surrounded by its own garden and NT land, with endless miles of walks amongst ancient oak and beech trees, and on the heathland with its ponies, sheep and red deer. Reached via an unmade track and over a footbridge, this is a rural location and makes for a perfect holiday hideaway. Superb for mountain biking, bird watching, horse riding, golf and watersports, it really is a little slice of heaven. There is a fantastic selection of British wildlife on the doorstep, with buzzards, badgers, red deer, foxes, rabbits and a pair of friendly dippers who have a nest next to the waterfall. This is an ideal base for hikers and dog walkers, excellent walking can be found on the Quantock Hills and Exmoor. The cottage is a short drive (or a fabulous 2½ mile walk) from the village of Nether Stowey, with its range of shops and pubs. Places of interest include Coleridge Cottage and Dunster Castle (both NT), the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor, Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge and Taunton. Beach 2 miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub ½ mile.

Spacious living room with wood-burning stove and views of waterfall. Open-plan dining room with kitchen area. Step to double bedroom with 5ft bed and en-suite bathroom with toilet. Twin bedroom with additional single trundle bed (for flexible sleeping arrangements) and en-suite shower room with toilet.

  • Wood-burning stove in living room - initial fuel included, thereafter available locally
  • Electricity, full oil central heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included
  • Digital TV
  • DVD (large library)
  • iPod dock
  • Microwave

A very interesting, comfortable cottage in a lovely setting surrounded by nature. Very good for walking in the quatock hills. Surounded by a lot of lawn which was splendid for the dog.

A wonderful relaxing get away in a beautiful cottage and with suberb access to the Quantock Hills. If you want luxury, peace and quiet, and wildlife spotting in a relatively undisturbed part of the country then this is the place to go.

Perfect base for walking and mountain-biking on the Quantocks. The only downside is the lack of a village store or a tea-shop in Holford. But the big supermarkets do online deliveries here.
