In a secluded woodland clearing atop Saint Roche’s Hill, The Rubbing House is a majestic country house retreat in Goodwood, near Chichester. With breathtaking elevated views stretchingover West Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, it is a fine luxury holiday home for responsible groups, family gatherings and discerning celebrations.
On entering the porperty you are welcomed by a reception hall where high ceilings, a grand staircase and roaring wood burner add to your stately entrance. Double doors open into the huge drawing room, where an intimate ambiance can be conjured with low level lighting and big sofas gathered around the large fireplace. Another double door leads into the kitchen, equipped with all modern conveniences and flowing into the adjacent dining room. A breakfast table to the side is perfect for a relaxed snack or feeding children, before enjoying a grown-up evening around the large extendable dining table. A big screen Smart TV with DVD player rises imperiously from a wall cabinet, allowing for kids to enjoy a film or two while the adult members of your party can relax in the deep sofas next door.
Upstairs in this large holiday home, the first floor offers a master bedroom with stunning views south. It also features a large en-suite bathroom with panelled double end bath, separate shower and the same amazing vista. Bedroom two with a double bed offers further southerly views, and an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath. Bedroom four is another super king and leads into Bedroom five, a huge semi-circular room with twin beds – a perfect set-up for families with ample space for little ones to play. Bedroom three is a king size; sage green walls and a dark wood bed frame gives a cosy hunting lodge feel. There is also a shared family bathroom between bedroom four and five. The main house sleeps a total of ten guests.
Next to the main house, Yew Cottage is a detached one-bed annexe with its own kitchen, living room and en-suite walk-in shower leading from the super king size zip and link bedroom. If required there is a day bed with additional pull-out in the living room creating a king size bed when pushed together, increasing capacity to four in the cottage.
Outside, a superb games room in one of the outbuildings offers table tennis and darts. There are extensive grounds to discover, including a woodland nature trail around the estate. The front lawn looks out over the panoramic views to Chichester and the coast, the perfect setting for a relaxed BBQ or more formal al-fresco entertaining at this celebration house. A truly unique home stay location near Chichester, offering luxury self-catering group accommodation for families and groups.
Classic British pursuits abound in this stunning area of Old England. To stretch your legs, head out of the gate and straight onto the many footpaths that criss-cross the South Downs. The Rubbing House sits right next to the Trundle, an Iron Age fort. This area is famous for the Goodwood Estate; head to Goodwood Racecourse less than a mile away for a rip-roaring weekend of horse racing and fine festivities at the ‘Glorious Goodwood’ Qatar Festival.
