Tormire Laithe, deriving from the old Nordic word for barn, has been beautifully converted into a holiday home while keeping the charm and character of its original barn features.

Situated down a quiet lane just outside of the Yorkshire village of Airton this luxurious country retreat is surrounded by green grass meadows with views out across the Yorkshire Dales. The whole property has been lovingly designed to an impeccable standard throughout. The kitchen is the heart of the home with a beautiful aga standing proudly at the head of the room, a fabulous American style fridge/freezer with ice maker, so you have refreshingly cool drinks at the press of a button and a dining table. The views from this room are incredible.

The living room is the ideal space to unwind after a busy day, and the log burner is perfect to cosy up to on a chilly evening. Upstairs, there is a large master bedroom with kingsize bed and en-suite shower room; enjoy waking up to stunning scenery and local wildlife, all without leaving your bed. The second, single bedroom also has gorgeous views, plus its own bathroom adjacent with a bathtub which is the perfect spot to lie back, soak in the bubbles and gaze at the stars through the skylight above. There is also so much to love outside this fabulous holiday home. Soak up the sunshine on the flagged terraced area with comfortable garden furniture, perfect for alfresco suppers in the summer taking in the superb vista, and to further add to the wow factor, there is a relaxing hot tub, with views across the surrounding countryside.

There is so much to enjoy at Tormire Laithe that you’ll never want to leave, but if you can tear yourself away for an afternoon, you’ll be spoilt for choice with things to do in this amazing area. Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, there are hundreds of walks close by, some even from your front door. Cyclists will love the winding country lanes and undulating hills which make up parts of the Tour de Yorkshire route. Nearby is Malham Cove, one of Great Britain’s geological wonders believed to be the best example of a limestone pavement in the UK, the amphitheatre style formation stands 260 feet high bringing climbers, walkers and geologists from all over the world to experience it.

The historic market town of Skipton is close at hand, boasting one of England’s best preserved Norman castles. Take a leisurely boat trip along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, meander through the cobbled streets dotted with shops, bars and restaurants and enjoy the bustling street market – its stalls laden with local produce. Settle is also within easy reach, with a great selection of independent shops plus the ideal base for embarking on a journey aboard the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway. The Consiton Spa and Hotel is perfect for indulging in some pampering or for the thrill seekers, they have 4 x 4 driving and clay pigeon shooting also available onsite.

By far the best cottage we have stayed in the Yorkshire dales. The barn conversion could not be faulted. Ideal location with beautiful scenery from the hot tub with sheep and cows visiting every day. No expense seemed to have been spared with the furnishings and the American fridge freezer was definitely needed with cold water on tap. A lovely welcome hamper was also provided and we certainly will look to come back here in the future.
