These ten luxury holiday cottages situated within the grounds of Tottergill Farm, a private 48-acre estate in the tranquil Cumbrian countryside. Looking out over the Lake District and the Scottish hills, the views are breathtaking – it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind. Tottergill Farm is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty resulting in woodpeckers, pheasants and even red squirrels frequenting the gardens and grounds.
Luxury toiletries, bathrobes and slippers are provided, and on arrival you will be welcomed with fresh flowers, Cumbrian coffee and home-made cake. Every guest staying at Tottergill Farm receives complimentary access to the private swimming pool in nearby Brampton, 5 miles (booking essential).
From the estate you can walk the mile into Castle Carrock where there is a fantastic country pub serving home-made food. Other pretty walks can be enjoyed around Gelt Woods, Greenwell, or up Carrock fell, which offers breath-taking views.
Brampton, 4 miles, is one of the main market towns in the North Pennines, and stands in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is the ideal base from which to explore Hadrian’s Wall, the Lake District National Park, and the rarely explored rural villages straddling Cumbria and Northumberland. Use of a private pool called Quarry Beck in Brampton free of charge, booking essential. Owner on-site. Bathrobes and slippers.

    This cottage was described as “luxury 4-5 star” but to be honest it was a bit tired-looking around the edges e.g. decking area/outdoor table was in desperate need of decoration/upgrade, garden grass was uncut, garden fence was broken and therefore insecure for our young children and our dog, the oven dials were so worn that you couldn’t tell the settings/temperature, worktops and tiles were chipped in places. However, the level of cleanliness was fair and there were nice touches such as robes, slippers and fresh flowers. The rooms were spacious and the cottage was well-equipped. We were slightly unsure on arrival how we were to access the property - there wasn’t anyone around to meet and greet and nobody was available on the phone at that point either. We figured it out for ourselves however, additional information in this respect might have been helpful after a long journey. It soon became apparent that the hot tub was not in good working order. When this was reported to the owners (in addition to a faulty shower room radiator); to give them their due, they responded promptly in order to fix the situation. However, given that a part could not be sourced immediately and given the time it took for the hot tub to then reheat; we were without it for a considerable amount of our stay. This was a huge disappointment, as it had been a key reason for selecting this particular cottage from a choice of many. We were assured some compensation for this, but, almost three weeks later, we are unfortunately still waiting. The location was lovely and the cottage certainly had huge potential to be the “luxury” accommodation it claimed to be - we just feel quite let down it wasn’t the 4-5 star stay we were promised on this occasion.
