With a nautical heritage and retaining wood panelled walls, Trinity Cottage lies quietly on the quayside within a conservation area.

With a nautical heritage and retaining wood panelled walls, Trinity Cottage lies quietly on the quayside within a conservation area.

This 19th-century character cottage has always belonged to seafaring families; an early owner was captain of the Trinity House light vessel at Lowestoft, known as the Corton light ship. Owners from the 1950s were among founder members of Wells Sailing Club and Wells Wildfowlers with a long standing family connection to the Wells lifeboats and Trinity House pilotage. Nestled in quaint and pretty Jolly Sailor Yard on the East Quay, it lies detached within a peaceful designated conservation area and despite being just a few steps from the harbour, it is free from traffic noise, so you can be sure of a good night’s sleep. The wood panelled dining room and kitchen create a cosy atmosphere and the living room has an original art deco fireplace and oak floor.
Wells-next-the-Sea has so much to offer that you will be tempted to park up and explore everything on foot but it is also very close to Holkham Hall and Estate. You will find sailing and fishing trips, an array of traditional and artisan shops, and lots of lovely places where you can eat and drink. You can take the single gauge railway down to the wide, sandy beach or hop on the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway and take a trip to picturesque Walsingham to see the National Shrine of our Lady. Head east and explore Blakeney for a spot of crabbing; Sheringham for the North Norfolk Steam Railway and Sheringham Park, or Cromer with its famous pier and Edwardian seafront. Or head west and experience all the fun of the fair in Hunstanton, where you will also find a Sea Life Centre. Afterwards you can return to Trinity Cottage to relax, unwind and dream of adventures yet to come. Beach ¾ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Trinity Cottage is beautifully equipped with obvious care by the owners. It’s peaceful location on the East Quay provides a great base for your holiday, and yet is very close to the centre of Wells. One of the surprise bonuses is the ‘picnic spot’, a private area directly overlooking the East Fleet, to sit and read, to eat your fish and chips, or simply watch the ships go by. Because of Covid our contact with the owner was remote via email, but she maintained contact throughout to ensure all was good. We have already booked next year’s holiday at Trinity Cottage and look forward in anticipation of another great visit.

Thank you for a lovely review and good to know you will be back next year. I tend to communicate with guests via mail irrespective of the current climate as I think the last thing they need on holiday is visits or phone calls from the owner! I live outside Wells but am always available if guests have any queries - other than an initial courtesy mail to see if they have arrived safely and are happy, I leave them in peace to enjoy their vacation.
