Great location, there is a huge amount to do, castles, gardens, country houses, good food and the Farne Islands. Really spacious cottage in a quiet location. I know the washing machine was removed in favour of the dishwasher. We would have preferred the washing machine. Very comfortable week. We aim to return. One thing; grass needs cutting. Bit of a hayfield at the moment..!

A very nice cottage. Lots of space for two. Very well furnished and decorated. Quiet peaceful location. Downside minimal outside space,no pub or cafe within 3 miles. No washing machine.

Response on behalf of the owner; Many thanks for your comments. West Crook is like many converted farm buildings, it is located on a working farm and whilst pubs and restaurants are not within walking distance they are a very short drive away. Regarding outside space, there is a garden to the front, lawn to the side and a drive area for 2 cars / somewhere to sit overlooking cattle and sheep grazing.

We love West Crook and our second visit was just as wonderful as the last. We will be going again. We lead very hectic lives with very demanding jobs, West Crook is definitely a place to wind right down. The accommodation has just about every single thing you could need to make it home from home. The interior is amazing and the log fire really is the icing on the cake at West Crook. I cannot fault the place, we had visitors from Scotland for tea and they were blown away by the beauty of the place. I can highly recommend a visit and cannot wait for our next holiday there. We also love the fact the surroundings are very peaceful and a little of the beaten track but within minutes in the car you are in the hub of the village and all it has to offer.

The cottage was fantastic and to a very high standard, only draw down was the location due to lack of amenities (nearest pub 2 miles not walkable due to no pavements)

West Crook at booking time and for a few minutes on arrival had the makings of all tens in the scoring list. However, it soon became clear that all was not great thus: the bathroom sink tap was grubby with lime scale and there were deposits of cleaning tissue around the base. The sink overflow was filthy with human hairs hanging out of the drain in the slime when the silver insert was removed to clean. The toilet seat didn't fit properly and brown slime was evident from beneath the silvered mountings. The bath had human hairs in it. The kitchen was a little better but not without disappointments thus: the teapot was horrific with a green liquid in the bottom and stained walls. The cold tap had black slime growing around the tap shaft. The cutlery was stained and dried egg yoke was found on some knives. The toaster had one element that didn't work so only three sides of two slices were toasted. The kitchen door could only be locked and unlocked from the inside which was inconvenient for the sake of a cheap new lock barrel. The lounge area was superficially better but spoilt by a lack of thoughtfulness thus: there were no logs in the log basket. The large feature wall clock didn't work and the staircase landing was a visual mess and a dumping ground for bags and a mattress. The wall lamp over the staircase didn't work and the fancy new thermostat was a waste of money. Indeed, the money would have been better spent fixing the horrific plumbing system, this because one dare not use a tap whilst the shower was in use, and the noise from the radiator valves was unacceptable. The bedroom was nice, but the clock didn't work and the mattress was simply worn out and lacked support. Did we have a good holiday? Well yes, but only after we had cleaned the bathroom and washed all that we needed to use in the kitchen. For the money we paid in September I expected much better, with clean floors and cleanliness at the top of the list and an attention to detail that went more that skin deep. Shame really, this is a nice property.

Response on behalf of the owner; Can we first of all thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback. Whilst we don’t agree with all of the comments, the property was certainly not presented to the normally high standard. The cause of the problem was the lack of attention to detail by the management company who supervised the week to week maintenance during 2018. West Crook is a premium barn conversion in a fantastic location and we pride ourselves on presenting the property in meticulous condition from the first to the final week of the season. We apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment this guest experienced. Reviews are a key source of information for many prospective guests. This is a poor review however 99 of reviews over the past 15 years have been very positive. Going forward, for 2019 the management of the property is back in house where attention to detail has resumed with immediate effect. Future guests will not be disappointed.
