From your romantic bolt hole enjoy a day out at Beamish, 4 miles, the world famous open air museum telling the story of life in the north east of England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. It truly is an amazing experience and not to be missed. Tanfield Railway is another must. Enjoy a trip on a steam engine on the world’s oldest railway and you might even meet Santa if you visit at Christmas time!The beautiful cities of Durham and Newcastle are both 13 miles away, where you will find the Newcastle Metro Centre, ideal for the shopaholic. Take the time to explore Durham where there is always something happening at any time of year including the Jazz Festival, Durham Festival of the Arts and the Brass Festival to name but a few.
