You can’t get much closer to nature short of sleeping in the garden. Woodland Retreat is a veritable fairy-tale scene - springtime sees the garden come to life with wildflower, bluebells grow freely and the canopy overhead becomes a mosaic of forest green. Inside, the open plan living space is a breath of fresh air, furnished with light décor and homely comforts. Being all in one room, it’s made for spending quality time with the family in a beautiful setting, and the bedrooms hold promise of a blissful night’s sleep. One thing’s for certain: it doesn’t get much better than breakfast outside in the morning sun to the sound of birdsong. As the owners live in the adjacent building, help is always at hand.

The property lends itself to holidaymakers from all walks of life. Stay-at-homers can put their feet up, turn the TV on or finish a book that’s long overdue, or you could spend all day enjoying the 6 acres of woodland on your doorstep: nature at its finest. The property is situated on the edge of the village of Winsor, and with the New Forest on your doorstep, there’s a wide range of activities available nearby for outdoorsy types (it is also home to a diverse range of wildlife, so birdwatchers - don’t forget to bring your binoculars!).

Food aficionados can head to Southampton, home to a wide range of eateries from the world over, and if you’re willing to go further afield, a day trip to the Isle of Wight from Lymington won’t disappoint. History buffs can explore Winchester and Salisbury, and for your cheeky little monkeys, the theme park Paulton’s Park, is an absolute must.

The cottage is the nearest to perfect we have stayed in. Well proportioned, excellently equipped and spotlessly clean. The owner Marie was welcoming, friendly and very helpful with information on the local area and what to visit. We would fully recommend this property and have already booked again to stay next spring. Martin and Jackie. Kent

The accommodation could not be improved. Marie was very friendly and offered good advice on where to visit. On arrival, there was a fantastic lemon drizzle cake made by Marie's aunt - she should sell them commercially! We very much enjoyed our stay. Thanks Marie.

The cottage is lovely inside with a modern feel inside. The master bedroom was comfortable but the second bedroom was a little bit cramped for two teenagers - bunk beds would be better suited to younger children and all their clothes had to be stored in the master bedroom as there was only a dressing table in their room. The kitchen was nicely fitted, although the electric hob was really tricky to use; I don't think I ever got to grips with how it worked and it was just by fluke that it managed to work intermittently. There wasn't much of a welcome pack in comparison to previous cottages we've stayed at. Only a few tea bags and one pint of milk. There was a Morrisons only a few miles away though. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would probably visit Southampton again.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Brilliant! I’m pleased you enjoyed your holiday here. I appreciate electric hobbs can be complicated to use, the manufactures instructions are provided in the information pack, I would have helped you if you asked me. The bunkbeds are British standard full size, suitable for persons up to 17 Stone (107kg) also there is a hanging rail, hooks, under bed storage and a dressing table. My welcome pack is based on items that are useful and helpful there are far too many items to list here with everything from dishwasher tablets to serviettes. In addition to this, I love to provide a very tasty homemade cake, fresh milk, tea, coffee, sugar and herbal infusions for you and your family to enjoy on arrival.

We stayed at Woodland retreat for two weeks and enjoyed every minute of the stay. The furnishings and amenities within the bungalow were fantastic, Marie was a lovely host and pleasant conversationalist, very understanding about the dog hairs. Plus the added extra of watching a deer and her foal wander the back garden eating crab apples was divine. beautiful setting, lovely walks in the area, and an all round relaxing five star holiday....we will be back for more.

Best accommodation we 've had in years. An idyllic location which we found restful and amenable. Owners make you feel welcome in their gardens which were beautiful. Would book there again if in the area.
